Revealed: Ravens’ Alleged Lamar Jackson Plan
One of the top quarterbacks in the entire NFL is Lamar Jackson. He has, regrettably, had to cope with some major injury problems. He ultimately missed the team’s Wild Card game on Sunday due to a knee ailment. As a result, the team suffered a slim touchdown loss. It might have been a different story if Jackson had been present.
Of course, Jackson is currently involved in a legal battle over a contract. The Ravens’ star player demanded more guaranteed money than they were prepared to give him. The Ravens now face a challenge as the offseason approaches. They must, in fact, make some important choices regarding Jackson.
Franchise Tag for Lamar Jackson
As a result, Jackson is the subject of a huge amount of reporting. For instance, Ian Rapoport discussed the Ravens’ plans this morning on Good Morning Football. In general, the Ravens want to keep Jackson and will extend an offer to him.
However, there is a good potential that Jackson will reject it if he doesn’t like the part of the guaranteed money. The Ravens will then simply place the franchise tag on him since they don’t want to lose him.
However, it was mentioned in a report by Peter King that the Ravens might employ a different form of franchise tag. With this tag, other teams would be able to entice Jackson with a deal. The Ravens can then decide whether to match it or let him depart in exchange for a draft pick.
Peter King claims:
Without strong club protection, I believe it will be difficult for Jackson to sign a long-term deal. Which indicates to me that there is a strong possibility that the Ravens will assign Jackson the non-exclusive franchise tag. If he signs a contract with another club, the Ravens could match it or, if they don’t, be given two first-round picks (or another arrangement the two teams may work out).
These sources indicate that the Ravens are aware of their need for Jackson. It remains to be seen if they would give him the right amount of money.
