Kermit Clevinger Obituary, Death –At the age of 81, the Belchers Fork community of Grundy, VA, mourns the passing of a beloved figure, Kermit Clevinger. On August 12, 2023, he peacefully departed from this world at his residence, succumbing to an extended battle with illness. His roots were deeply anchored in Buchanan County, born to the late Arlin and Exie (Belcher) Clevinger. A lifelong resident of the county, Kermit’s unwavering faith in the Baptist tradition shaped his journey. A distinguished veteran, he proudly served in the United States Army, later becoming a dedicated coal miner upon retiring. Beyond his remarkable service record, he was cherished for the roles of a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Embracing the great outdoors, he found solace in the pursuits of hunting and fishing.

Kermit’s path was paved with cherished memories and the deep bonds he formed with family and friends. He was predeceased by three sisters: Edith Ramey, Nelma Newsome, and Zelma Anderson. A special nephew, Charles Anthony Ramey, also preceded him in passing. The ranks of his family tree were further diminished by the loss of brothers-in-law: Homer Newsome, Clarence Randall Looney, Carl Anderson, and Charles E. Ramey.

Left to carry his legacy forward is his devoted wife of 59 years, Roma Lee (Ramey) Clevinger of Grundy, VA. Their union was blessed with a loving son, Russell “Big Lou” (Tonya) Clevinger of Grundy, VA. The tapestry of his life extends to embrace his cherished grandchildren: Truman Kodie Clevinger (Fiancée Orenda Bowman), Hannah Clevinger (Corey) Sullivan, and Kaitlyn Clevinger. The younger generation blossoms with his great-grandchildren: Dakoda, Aaliyah, Khloie, Loki, Amelia, and Tripp.

Amidst the bonds of family, Kermit is survived by a brother, Tommy Joe (Susan) Clevinger of Harman, VA, as well as two sisters: Pauline Looney and Donna Sue (Dewey) Looney, both of Harman, VA. His memory is further etched into the hearts of numerous nieces and nephews. The Grundy Funeral Home Chapel opens its doors to friends and well-wishers, inviting them to pay their respects on Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M., followed by a heartfelt service at 7:00 P.M.

On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 1:00 P.M., a poignant Funeral Service will be held at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel, presided over by Dr. Shea Shrader, with interment at the Clevinger Cemetery in Harman, VA. A reverential tribute will accompany Kermit’s farewell, with Full Military Rites conducted by members of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.

The role of pallbearers will be undertaken with utmost honor by Doug Clevinger, Ted Newsome, Shannon Prater, Wes Hale, Barry Whitt, Dempsey Whitt, Corey Sullivan, Dewey Looney, Ronnie Ramey, Kodie Clevinger, and Brandon Newsome. Meanwhile, an assembly of Honorary Pallbearers, including Earl Elswick, Fred Whitt, Sonny Kiser, Burlin Ratliff, Steven Belcher, Randy Looney, Joe Blankenship, Todd Blankenship, Bob Blankenship, and Kennith Chambers, will bear witness to Kermit’s final journey.
