Donald Gibson Obituary, Death – We have learned with great regret of the demise of one of our parents and an Old Johannian, Donald Gibson (Alston 1993). It is with great sadness that we have learned of his passing. During this difficult time, we are keeping his family, his friends, and everyone else who knew and loved him in our thoughts and prayers. Keep the Johannian flag at half-staff at all times. Turn off the gong in the bell tower. Perform the roll call in complete stillness against the biting winter wind.

Then assemble in complete silence within the Memorial Chapel. Turn down the volume on the organ, and the only sound that should be audible should be the creaking of the pews. The only light came from the sun shining in through the bay windows in the morning. A famous Johannian has just gone away; please bow your heads in respect.
Donald Gibson was his name. He was a Pre-Prep graduate, an Old Johannian, and a father who attended St. John’s.
These hallways, those classrooms, and the crease on Mitchell field are all littered with his footprints.

The amphitheatre was warmed by his grin, and the ceiling of the chapel was raised by his singing. His laughter echoed throughout Darragh Hall. He developed friendships that would last a lifetime here, and his affection for St. John’s was unwavering. Donald Gibson was one of the most talented Johannians that this region of the world has ever produced. Rest in peace, our dear friend. You are sorely missed by all of us.
